Another week down in Cocoyoc

Hey everyone!!

This week has been really fun. It's been a combination of super highs and super lows, but I learned a lot, and we saw tons of miracles in everything that went down.

I'll give you guys the highlights, then the low-lights.

Highlight 1) We had our first baptism here in this area!!! We baptized a girl named Alisson. She's 14. Almost all of her family are members of the church, but she never wanted to get baptized. After working hard with her for the past two weeks, and with lots of support from her family, and the young women's program from our ward, she decided to get baptized. It was so exciting! And she had her confirmation yesterday! She's now a full-fledged convert.

Highlight 2) The second highlight was that there was another baptism in the ward, on Wednesday, of a girl who turned 8, and we brought tons of investigators to see her baptism. The turnout we had was really awesome.

There's tons more highlights, but I have a funny story to share, so I'm gonna cut it off at that.

Low-light 1) Had to buy new tennis shoes. I put tons of holes in the ones I have just from time, and wore them to the ground, and they finally gave out, so I had to bite the bullet on some new ones. So I spent a lot of time today cruising running stores, trying to find shoes in my size here *sigh* and finally found some Asics that are super good, and were relatively cheap too, so I'll take a photo of them and send it next week.

Low-light 2) yesterday was fast Sunday. We typically start our fasts after lunch on Saturday, so by Sunday night we were practically dying. My comp wanted to be disobedient in something, I told him no, we got in a gnarly argument, and it just kind of generally sucked. Hunger and thirst and annoyance and pride just kind of boiled over and we ended up wasting like an hour just arguing in our apartment. I learned some really hard lessons from that, that we can't take away the agency of other people, and that I really need to improve my patience. But we made up, and everything is going well.

Low-light 3) I've had a gnarly cold for the past couple of days. It's finally gone now, but getting up everyday and working hard with a bad cold kind of sucked hahaha.

Funny story: Alisson's baptism was scheduled for 6 pm, but she didn't show up, or anybody else from her family for that matter. The minutes started passing, and we began to get worried. After about 20 minutes (with the baptismal room full with people waiting) we decided that we had to act. So we told a brother to call us if she showed up, and then we ran almost all the way to her house. Her house is pretty far away from the church (like 30 minutes walking). We were right about to get to her street when the brother called us and told us that she got to the chapel. So then we had to run all the way back (in full proselyting clothes). But the baptism went great, and she was super excited. Everything was really spiritual.

Well that's all for this week. Love you guys tons!

Love,
Elder William Jacob Long
